Course Packing Lists

This is the suggested equipment for each course. These are minimums, you’re free to bring as much additional equipment as you want. If you’re not sure about what something is or if there’s a adequate substitute, feel free to contact me.

RTO Course: A notebook, a pen or pencil, comfortable clothes for walking in the woods.

Advanced RTO Course: Notes from RTO Basic

Signals Intelligence / Low Level Voice Intercept: Notebook, pen, comfortable clothes

Scout Course Day 1 / Squad Designated Marksman Workshop:

  • AR-15 with magnified optic (run what you have)
    • 4 Magazines
    • 200rds Ammo, preferably Match Grade (DO NOT BRING 62GR M855/GREEN TIP PENETRATOR. YOU WILL BE SHOOTING MY STEEL TARGETS.)
  • Hearing and Eye protection
  • Gloves
  • Notebook
  • Suitable boots
  • Any chest rig or LCE you plan on using
  • Patrol Pack
    • Lunch (up to you)
    • Water for 12 hrs in the sun
    • Sunblock

Scout Course:

Carbine Course:

  • Weapon w/ 300 rounds
  • Four Mags
  • Eye/Ear Pro
  • Gloves
  • Your personal tactical gear

Basic Tracking:

  • Note pad and pencil
  • Flashlight
  • Measuring tape capable of measuring up to approximately 48 inches.
  • Orienteering-type compass (with mirror and clear baseplate) – optional
  • Small mirror (mirror on compass may suffice) – optional
  • Corrected vision of participants (eye glasses if necessary)
  • Clothing appropriate for weather conditions (cold weather gear? rain gear? etc.)
  • Canteen / water container
  • 40” to 48” inch stick (wooden dowel) with rubber bands or hair ties (2) wrapped tightly around. 1/4” inch wood dowel will work.

First Line Course:

  • Fixed Blade Knife w/ sheath
  • Compass: baseplate or lensatic
  • Space blanket or GI Casualty blanket
  • Canteen cup for water collection and boiling
  • Chlorine Tablets
  • Firesteel or magnesium bar
  • Signal Mirror
  • Notebook and Pen
  • Food for two days
  • Appropriate clothes for the season
