Episode 94: In this episode I discuss what Baofeng Radios actually are capable of doing and how to optimize them for general purpose uses in an austere or otherwise off grid environment. I also discuss what the Radio Recon Group is up to and what we’ll be kicking out by next year.

in this episode you mentioned that your ‘jungle antenna’, a 1/4 wave ground plane, has roughly 6db of gain. not true… unless we’re talking in comparison to the rubber duck antenna most HTs come with; i.e. a dummy load. in actuality it has about 1.14-1.21db of gain, scarcely a little over unity and a ittle less than a 1/2~ dipole.
Not true according to who?
Quite a bit of published data would disagree.
